Nigerian Television Authority (NTA)
NTA is a Nigerian government-owned and partly commercial broadcaster. It is Originally known as Nigerian Television (NTV),NTA was founded in 1977 with a monopoly on national television broadcasting, after a takeover of regional television stations by military governmental authorities in 1976.

After declining interest from the public in government-influenced programming, it lost its monopoly over television broadcasting in Nigeria in the 1990s. The NTA runs the largest television network in Nigeria with stations in several parts of the country. It is widely viewed by many. News programming was central to NTA’s and the government’s efforts to forge national unity.

Television Authority was born as the sole entity responsible for Television broadcasting in Nigeria, beginning with ten 10 stations. It later added twenty 20more stations, bringing it to thirty 30 stations by 1999; and today, the organization boasts of one hundred and one 101 stations

NTA Functions
– Nigerian Television Authority has the ability of protecting the African perspective to the whole world, ensuring that projection is excellent, and is achieved through the promotion of efficient television services.

– Nigerian Television Authority transmits and receives station, and also maintains this practice.

– The Nigerian Television Authority NTA is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that, there is provision for excellent and efficient television service, such service should go globally, that is, it should be a worldwide service with a view to ensure that African, I mean true African perspective is projected. Since the Nigerian Television Authority has such a responsibility providing excellent services.

NTA Duties
Nigeria Television Authority main duty, The 9 pm news casting programme it is an hour programme which has one of the network’s highest advertising rates.

Other news productions come at 7 and Nationwide News at 4 pm. Investigative reporting and human stories are usually subordinate to covering government activities.
